Finding Us

It is approximately one hour by car from Inverness to Ullapool, a further 45 minutes to Achiltibuie, then 15 minutes to Culnacraig.

Take the A835 north from Ullapool. Turn left at the signpost to Achiltibuie where the road now becomes single track for the remaining 19 miles. Continue through the long, spread out village of Achiltibuie to Culnacraig where the tarmac road ends.  Along the half mile of Culnacraig track there are several gates. Please leave as you find them, either open or closed (depending on sheep gathering or shearing at certain times of year).  Thank you for your co-operation.  The track to the cottage is unsurfaced and should be driven with care particularly if your car is heavily laden, or has low ground clearance.

At the end of the tarmac road at the top of the valley by the first house, turn right through a gate and descend the track which soon winds through a small birch wood, before leveling out and running alongside fields. Continue past a stone byre on the right hand side and keep going straight on. The track descends quite steeply below, and to the right of a white cottage with a blue porch roof, and a wooded garden surrounded by a stone wall, before continuing the short distance to the cottage, at the very end of the track.

Public Transport

There is an airport and main railway station at Inverness, where cars can also be hired. There are regular bus services between Inverness and Ullapool which connect with the car ferry to Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis.

There is only one bus a day each way between Achiltibuie and Ullapool. There is no public transport service from Achiltibuie to Culnacraig (5 miles).
